What size and shape putter is best?

Walk into any golf store and you will be amazed at all the shapes and sizes putters come in.

The two main types of putter are: the mallet and the blade putter.

Mallet putters are large, flat soled and rounded in the back. This type of putter is for beginners because the weight is distributed across the face and the sweet spot is bigger.

Also, the wider sole moves the centre of gravity back, which helps you get a more end-over-end roll on the ball.

Some putters also offer face-balanced technology. To test if any given putter is face-balanced, hold the putter up in the air and notice the reaction of the face.

If the face stays square with the heel and the toe in line, then the putter is face-balanced.
